Job Summary
Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer — Location TBD. This role involves performing comprehensive obstetric ultrasounds, including first trimester scans, detailed second- and third-trimester anatomy surveys, growth and biophysical profiles, and specialized high-risk exams. The sonographer will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and support staff to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging and support care for high-risk pregnancies.

Job Details

  • Position Description: Must have prior Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) experience for at least one year. Perform comprehensive obstetric ultrasounds, including first trimester scans (NT, early anatomy), detailed second- and third-trimester anatomy surveys, growth and biophysical profiles (BPP), multiple gestations, cervical length assessment, placental evaluation/PAS, Doppler studies (umbilical artery, MCA, ductus venosus). Evaluate complex maternal and fetal conditions, support fetal therapy and invasive procedures such as amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), PUBS (cordocentesis), and selective fetal reductions (performed by physicians).
  • Patient Care: Provide compassionate care to patients facing high-risk pregnancies, explain procedures while staying within scope, and maintain privacy and emotional sensitivity.
  • Documentation & Workflow: Acquire high-quality diagnostic images, complete measurements accurately, enter exam data into EMR/PACS systems, ensure studies meet accreditation standards (AIUM/ACR).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians, radiologists, nurses, genetic counselors, and support staff. Participate in multidisciplinary care coordination.
  • Unit Description: Busy unit with six scanning rooms and one coordinator; equipped with a brand new Samsung Hera Z20 ultrasound machine.
  • Schedule: Day shifts, 8 hours per shift, minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: One year of Maternal Fetal Medicine ultrasound experience, certification, and relevant education.
  • Additional Information: Follow-up/exam durations: 45 minutes for anatomy scans (90 for twins); 30 minutes for early anatomy/NT exams (60 for twins). Abnormal results are promptly communicated to providers, with bedside consults.
