Step Down Unit Nurse – Nights – Location: [Location unspecified]
This role involves providing specialized nursing care for patients requiring intermediate to high acuity monitoring within a step down unit. Focused on patients with cardiac and vascular diagnoses, the position supports a thoracic program, electrophysiology, catheterization laboratory, and structural heart procedures. The nurse will deliver clinical expertise in patient assessment, medication titration, and interpreting telemetry data to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Job Details
- Certifications required: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale).
- Education and experience: Valid nursing license with a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in the relevant patient population.
- Location requirements: Driver’s license required; candidates must reside within 50 miles of the facility.
- Schedule: Night shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 11/16/2026 through 02/15/2027.
- Responsibilities: Care for patients with diagnoses such as coronary artery disease, arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation and RVR, CHF, CVA, and postoperative thoracic or vascular interventions.
- Nursing duties include titrating medications such as amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, and cardizem, as well as troubleshooting equipment like BiPAP and CPAP.
- Staffing includes a charge nurse on each shift, with nurse aides/patient care techs and in-unit telemetry monitoring.
- Education on unit-specific policies—artificial nails are prohibited; RNs will undergo tailored orientation and must pass a skills exam with a score of 90% or higher.
- Float requirement: May float to all same-level or lower acuity units as needed.
- Scrub color: Navy Blue.
- Charting system used: EPIC.
