Job Summary
Step Down Unit. The registered nurse provides care for adult and geriatric patients in a unit combining medical-surgical and intermediate care. The role supports a 36- or 48-hour option, accepts first-time travelers, and may include medical-surgical assignments during periods of overflow.
Job Details
- Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts, minimum 48 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: At least 1 year of experience; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications; state or compact nursing license in hand at submission; experience caring for patient assignments with ratios of 1:4 to 1:6.
- Preferred Qualifications: Previous charge experience and charting system experience.
- Additional Information: The unit includes medical-surgical and intermediate care patients, with a daily census of approximately 12–14 patients. Responsibilities may include telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response and code team participation, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration, oxygen and non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, continuous bladder irrigation, renal failure care, arterial line management, tracheostomy care, wound care, insulin and heparin protocols, cardiac monitoring, pacemaker care, post-myocardial infarction care, cardiac catheterization care, cerebrovascular accident care, substance withdrawal management, and high-flow nasal cannula support. Interdisciplinary support includes physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation.
