Job Summary:
The Operating Room (OR) Surgical Assistant/Orthopedic Assistant role is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The position involves functioning as a surgical first or second assistant for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures primarily in orthopedic cases, but candidates must be proficient across multiple specialties including neuro, ENT, vascular, laparoscopic, and more. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of work.
Job Details:
- Location: Milwaukee, WI
- Shift: Variable start times for day shift (between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM)
- Schedule: 8 hours per day, minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for RN, Operating Room Technician, and First Assist roles; relevant surgical experience including at least 2 years in neuro, ENT, orthopedic, vascular, or general surgery; valid license; ability to work varied start times; no prior travel experience required but approval from the hiring supervisor is necessary for first-time travelers.
- Preferred Qualifications: Strong background with robotic surgeries (specifically Xi systems) and familiarity with a range of procedures across specialties such as vascular, ENT, orthopedics; experience supporting in a high-volume OR environment.
- Additional Information: Orientation lasts approximately 2 weeks, including education, paperwork, and hands-on training in various specialties; support staff include charge nurses, leads, and supervisors; charting is performed using EPIC system; hospital-provided scrubs and parking, with on-campus cafeteria and Starbucks.
- Float: Cross-trained to all main OR specialties and Urology center; no floating to other hospitals.
- Holiday Expectations: Opportunity to work during holiday weeks with option for additional hours or unpaid leave.
- Other Notes: Scrub caps are allowed if covered by a surgical bouffant; parking is free with detached lot two blocks away for day shifts and attached lot for evening shifts.
