Job Summary:
The healthcare organization is seeking a registered nurse specializing in Medical Surgical with Telemetry (MS TELE) for a facility located in Peoria, Illinois. The position involves working in a Neuroscience MedSurg Acute unit, providing care for patients with conditions such as stroke, spine surgery, seizures, brain tumors, and head injuries. Candidates must bring their active Illinois nursing license on the first day of shift.
Job Details:
- Shift: 12-hour nights
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience: Must have level 1 trauma experience, previous travel experience (no first-time travelers), and prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit.
- Required Qualifications: Illinois active nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated; certifications including BLS (AHA) and NIHSS; minimum of 1 year of experience in a relevant setting; previous neuro unit experience; trauma experience; and previous travel experience.
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, one shift per day, with an average of at least 36 hours per week.
- Additional Responsibilities: Reading telemetry strips (brand: Phillips), troubleshooting RT equipment (ventilators, Cpap, Bipap, high flow), and managing titrated drips such as heparin based on PTT. Nurse aids or patient care techs are present on the unit, with patient ratios of 1:5-6 for nights.
- Float Requirements: Floats are in rotation with staff, with skills limited to the trained unit or other general units if necessary.
- Unit Orientation: 2 days of orientation including computer training and unit-specific procedures, supplemented by 1 day working with a preceptor.
- Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday), and every other holiday.
- Other Notes: No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered; no piercings besides earrings. There are tele/monitor techs; telemetry monitors are Phillips brand; nurses do not need to read their own strips.
- Department: Neuro MedSurg Acute, with nurse and patient ratios specified per shift.
- Department notes: The unit handles neurological and medical overflow cases, with a focus on trauma and neuro conditions.
