Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical with Telemetry (MedSurg/Telemetry) in Charlotte, North Carolina. This position is at a Level I Trauma Teaching Hospital providing high-acuity care for diverse patient types including spinal surgeries, strokes, seizures, and brain tumors. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Hours: 48 hours per week, scheduled on a 6-week cycle
  • Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certifications; at least 2 years of MedSurg/Telemetry RN experience on Resource Team; current license in North Carolina; minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Trauma level 1 experience, teaching hospital experience, proficiency with EMR systems Cerner and Epic, experience with stroke and neuro/post-op spine care, and comfort with post-op neuro and spine patient education.
  • Patient Care Responsibilities: Managing high-acuity patients with diagnoses such as spinal fusion, stroke, seizure, and brain tumors. Duties include cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, drain/tube management, PCA pumps, post-op mobilization, and medication gtt management including cardiac drips and blood products.
  • Support within Department: Varies CNA ratios, reception and charge nurse support, peripheral blood draws, resource nurse availability, 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist, and RT support.
  • Technology and Equipment: EPIC EMR, Alaris infusion pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, vital signs monitored via Masimo and Phillips portable monitors.
  • Floating: Floating within designated regions as per unit needs, with payment for travel time if floating mid-shift. Regions include Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division, Pineville, Union, Union West, Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln.
  • Orientation: 2 days of departmental orientation.
  • Scheduling: Every other weekend rotation, no on-call, 75% holiday work, up to 6 days off for RTO.
  • Other Notes: No more than 2 call offs in a 13-week contract; may be at risk of cancellation if exceeded. Scrub color: Navy. Parking: Free.
  • Unit Culture: Emphasizes teamwork, high-quality, and safety-focused care including CAUTI, HAPI, fall, and CLABSI prevention. Open to real-time feedback and supporting staff development.
