Job Summary:
Medical Surgical (MS) Nurse in Quincy, Illinois. This position involves providing inpatient surgical care on a fast-paced unit that manages a high volume of patients including surgery admits and discharges. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day. The role primarily includes working nights with scheduled shifts of 12 hours each, starting at 7:00 PM.
Job Details:
- Location: Quincy, Illinois
- Schedule: 3-12 hour shifts per week, starting at 7:00 PM, minimum 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid licensure; BLS (American Heart Association) certification; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification; at least 2 years of surgical inpatient experience; experience with electronic health records using EPIC; ability to interpret telemetry strips; experience with TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) and Lipids; total joint experience; understanding of PCA pumps, reversal drugs such as Narcan, and sepsis management; knowledge of narcotic usage; familiarity with titrating drips such as Heparin per protocol
- Preferred Qualifications: EPIC experience and previous medical-surgical inpatient nursing experience
- Additional Information: The unit is fast-paced with heavy patient loads, managing 8-12 surgery admits daily along with discharges. Tech support includes telemetry monitors; nurses are responsible for interpreting telemetry strips. Night staff may have additional responsibilities such as assisting with equipment (e.g., CPAP, Bipap, vents) and may act as house supervisors. Float requirements are to similar units; floated staff will not be responsible for a patient load.

- Holidays: Participates in holiday rotation with core staff
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
