Job Summary:
The labor and delivery (L&D) nursing position is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at a Level IV Trauma Center with specialized units including Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Level III Perinatal Center. This hospital is a teaching facility with a strong focus on high-risk maternal and neonatal care. Candidates must bring their nursing license on the first day and are expected to provide comprehensive care for high-risk mothers and newborns, including procedures such as cervical exams, OB triage, assisting with cesarean sections, and postpartum care. The role requires working in a fast-paced environment supporting a team of OB specialists and providers.

Job Details:

  • Location: Milwaukee, WI
  • Facility Type: Teaching hospital with OBGYN residents, family practice physicians, and midwives
  • Shift: Night shift, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Start Date: 07/06/2026
  • Certifications: Registered Nurse (RN) with BLS and NRP certification required; OB Tech with BLS, CST preferred
  • Education & Experience: Must have at least 2 years of experience in labor and delivery with high-risk maternal and neonatal care, including fetal monitoring, maternal assessments, and postpartum care.
  • Schedule: No set schedule; shifts are assigned based on staffing needs, with availability required 7 days per week, including every other weekend and holidays (based on start date).
  • Floating: Travelers will float to the Postpartum Women's Care Center and other inpatient units, with initial floating responsibilities for first assignments.
  • Orientation: Day 1 involves onboarding with the nurse manager and unit training; Day 2 provides preceptor training; Day 3 introduces a work buddy, with the possibility of having own patient assignment.
  • Support: The unit is supported by a charge nurse, clinical resource nurse, phlebotomy team, RT, house supervisor, certified nurse midwives, OBGYN providers, and OB anesthesia onsite 24/7.
  • Charting System/Equipment: EPIC electronic health record, fetal monitoring equipment, epidural pumps, Pyxis medication system, and Alaris infusion pumps.
  • Additional Information: Must be knowledgeable in fetal monitoring, maternal interventions, postpartum care, assisting with procedures, and supporting high-risk deliveries. The facility provides PPE, fit-testing, and CAPR/PAPR equipment.
