Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Labor and Delivery) — Chula Vista, California. The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing safe, therapeutic, and individualized care for an assigned group of patients, using the nursing process from assessment through planning, implementation, and evaluation. The role promotes quality outcomes, serves as a patient and family advocate, and collaborates with the healthcare team in complex, new, or high-risk clinical situations. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Evenings, 12 hours per shift, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.

  • Required Qualifications: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license; Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR); Advanced practice/experience as applicable with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Advanced or Inter (required); RPAWHONN certification (as specified); At least three (3) years of recent RN experience working in an RN role; At least two (2) years of recent RN experience working in a specialty area.

  • Preferred Qualifications: EFM Advanced or Intermediate (preferred).

  • Responsibilities:

    • Perform individualized assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, therapeutic, and efficient nursing care.
    • Identify and prioritize patient and family needs and goals, including overt and subtle needs.
    • Document assessment data and develop a plan of action in collaboration with the patient, family, and other healthcare team members.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive, age- and culturally appropriate plan of care, including individualized documentation (IPOC/IPER).
    • Seek resources as needed for new or unusual situations and make nursing decisions in accordance with compliance requirements.
    • Evaluate patient and family progress toward goals and adjust goals and interventions as needed.
    • Evaluate patient and family response to care in relation to intended goals.
    • Participate in patient care conferences and document patient response to care.
    • Identify and respond to patient and family educational needs using an individualized educational plan; assess learning needs, implement education, and evaluate learning outcomes.
    • Recognize communication barriers and seek interdisciplinary expertise to establish a therapeutic relationship.
    • Analyze socio-cultural variables to adapt nursing interventions to meet diverse needs and support patient and family participation in decision-making.
    • Communicate care needs through documentation per department/entity guidelines and follow applicable policies and procedures.
    • Delegate/assign care to appropriate healthcare team members within scope of practice/competency.
    • Coordinate, integrate, and intervene with other healthcare team members to impact patient/family well-being; communicate and coordinate to expedite patient progress and/or workflow.
    • Follow through with identified actions/referrals and communicate the need for patient care conferences.
