Job Summary: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) Registered Nurse (RN) — Wausau, Wisconsin
The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) role in Wausau, Wisconsin. The position supports a short-stay observation-focused unit with a high volume of admissions and discharges. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Rotating shifts with 12-hour shift hours, working a minimum of 48 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: WI RN license; Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required (AHA or ARC); National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) (preferred); Associate Degree or Certificate; charting experience with Epic (EPIC) required; minimum 3 years of relevant experience; 1 travel assignment required; ability to read and interpret strips; must be prepared to take an EKG exam during compliance.
  • Preferred Qualifications: National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) highly preferred.
  • Float: Float rotation to all inpatient units as needed; may float to Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) and Cardiovascular Telemetry Unit (CTU).
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirements: Every other weekend and every other holiday.
  • Additional Information: The unit is an 8-bed observation/short-stay unit. Background in observation units or Medical-Surgical (MS)/Telemetry (Tele) units is required. Patient ratio is typically 1:4. Common patient conditions include anemia, cellulitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), dehydration, and pre- and post-operative urology and GI cases. Medication drips may include Cardizem (diltiazem), nitroglycerin, insulin, and heparin. Contract eligibility includes potential low census unbillable hours, which may be scheduled in hour increments as needed; this is not considered on-call.
  • Additional Information: Shift rotation includes day and night 12-hour variables (7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.). Scrub colors may be any color. Set hours are guaranteed except during holidays when the unit is closed. During flu season, mask use is required at all times for travelers who decline flu and COVID vaccination, consistent with facility policy; failure to follow the policy may result in corrective action.
