Job Summary:
The organization is seeking experienced Intensive Care Unit (ICU) registered nurses (RNs) for night shifts in a facility located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The position involves providing care to critically ill patients with conditions such as sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day and must meet the specified certification and experience requirements.
Job Details:
- Location: Council Bluffs, IA
- Shift Schedule: Nights, 1830-0700, with every third weekend
- Minimum Hours Per Week: 36 hours
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); PALS & TNCC preferred
- Required Qualifications: Licensed RNs with at least 2 years of ICU experience, including experience with drips, ventilators, and BiPaps; prior travel experience preferred. A valid driver's license must be provided at submission to verify radius restrictions.
- Additional Information: The position requires one shift of ICU orientation and one shift for progressive care unit (PCU). Candidates must comply with the radius rule of 50 miles, and those associated with certain healthcare systems within the past year are ineligible. RTO requests must be made upfront, as additional requests will not be approved. The hospital has a policy of no artificial nails and requires navy blue scrubs.
- Experience or Skills: ICU experience with drips, vents, BiPaps; minimum 2 years preferred.
- Float: Floats to lower levels of care such as PCU and Medsurg may be required; training provided.
- Responsibilities: Managing critical patient conditions, titrating titratable and set-rate drips, troubleshooting ventilators and BiPaps, and coordinating with hospitalist and intensivist teams available 24/7.
- Equipment: Vents, Cpap, BiPaps, High Flow devices; RNs troubleshoot but do not adjust these devices.
- Staffing: Charge nurses are present on each shift and may take assignments; nurse aides and patient care techs are not specified for this unit.
- Telemedicine & Monitoring: Centralized telemonitor techs monitor patients, with RNs responsible for reading and verifying strips using Draeger monitors.
