Job Summary:
The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a facility located in Phoenix, Arizona. The position involves working in a high-acuity CTICU/CVICU environment, with shifts scheduled overnight for 12 hours. Candidates are required to bring their nursing license on the first day of the assignment.

  • Required Qualifications: Valid license (willing to wait), minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, ICU experience required, CVICU experience preferred, BLS (Basic Life Support) certificate, ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certificate, CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification preferred, strong IV skills required, pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, must have Level I Trauma Experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: CCRN certification.
  • Unit Details:
    • Type: CTICU/CVICU
    • Bed Capacity: 24
    • Certifications: BLS, ACLS; CCRN preferred
    • EMR System: Cerner
    • Acute care setting with high-acuity patients including cardiac surgery recovery, lung transplants, ECMO, TAVR, and other complex procedures.
    • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1-2, with high numbers of 1:1 patients.
    • Manual skills required: Strong IV skills, ability to perform bedside procedures such as bronchs, Swans, epidurals.
    • Additional responsibilities include floating to other ICUs and tele units as needed, with a specific orientation of 2 days on the floor.
    • Safety and sterile technique are emphasized; all candidates must demonstrate competency during orientation.
    • Travel Teams must have their own vehicles.
    • Uniform: Navy scrub color.
    • Shift Schedule: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, holidays on rotation.
    • Patients: Cardiac surgery recovery, IABP, CRRT, lung transplant, thoracic, ECMO, esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumectomy, TAVR.

Additional Information:
All nurses will undergo a pass/fail SIMs Lab focusing on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. The facility expects high competency in sterile procedures and bedside skills. The team includes in-house Intensivists during daytime shifts and on-call overnight, with no IV team but strong IV skills required. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment.
