Job Summary:
Medical Technologist (MT) – days. This position is based in a hospital laboratory setting and involves conducting laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, including Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology. The role requires independent technical oversight during off-shift and weekend hours, supporting high-volume transfusion services and trauma operations.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Every Saturday and Sunday, 0700-1900, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: NYSDOH 10 NYCRR 58-1.4 qualification pathways for Laboratory Supervisor, Bachelor's degree with Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) qualification plus four (4) years of pertinent laboratory experience, or Master's degree plus two (2) years of experience, or Doctoral degree/licensed physician plus one (1) year of experience. Valid New York State license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Education Law Article 165) or equivalent out-of-state license/credential. ASCP (or equivalent) certification, MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent strongly preferred. Hands-on bench experience in Blood Bank/Transfusion Service, troubleshooting instrument issues, QC interpretation, and result escalation. Experience functioning as sole technical authority during off-shift/weekend hours in an acute care hospital laboratory. Working knowledge of CLIA (42 CFR 493), CAP, AABB, and 10 NYCRR Part 58 requirements. Proficiency with Epic Beaker LIS, WellSky BloodBank software or demonstrated ability to become proficient within onboarding period.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Prior formal supervisory or lead technologist experience in hospital-based laboratories. SBB (ASCP) or blood bank specialist certification. Support for Level I/II trauma or high-volume transfusion operations. Participation in NYSDOH, JC, CAP, or AABB inspection processes.
  • Additional Information: The professional’s role includes performing antibody workups, crossmatches, managing transfusion reactions, and overseeing transfusion events independently during assigned hours.
