Job Summary:
Medical Technologist (MT) – Night shift – the position is based at a hospital laboratory. The role involves performing complex laboratory testing across Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology departments, with the ability to work independently during off-hours and weekends. The candidate will serve as the technical authority during night and weekend shifts, ensuring quality and compliance standards are met.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications:
Current, valid New York State license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Education Law Article 165), or an equivalent out-of-state license/credential evaluated as acceptable; ASCP (or equivalent) certification such as MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent; Bachelor's degree with qualification as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist per 58-1.5(b), plus a minimum of four (4) years of pertinent, hands-on laboratory experience across Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology; or a Master's degree with CLT qualification and two (2) years of pertinent experience; or a Doctoral degree or licensed physician with CLT qualification and one (1) year of pertinent experience. - Demonstrated hands-on bench experience in Blood Bank/Transfusion Service capable of independently performing antibody workups, crossmatches, and managing transfusion reactions; working technical knowledge across Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology; experience functioning as the sole technical authority during off-shift/weekend hours; working knowledge of CLIA (42 CFR 493), CAP, AABB, and 10 NYCRR Part 58 requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
Prior supervisory or lead technologist experience in a hospital-based laboratory; SBB (ASCP) or blood bank specialist certification; experience supporting Level I/II trauma or high-volume transfusion services; prior participation in NYSDOH, JC, CAP, or AABB inspection/survey processes. - Additional Information:
The position requires adherence to SOPs and regulatory standards, troubleshooting instrumentation issues, and interpreting quality control results. The role involves working independently during off-shift hours, supporting complex testing and transfusion procedures, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies.
