The role requires working under minimal supervision in a dynamic surgical setting, supporting complex procedures, and maintaining aseptic techniques.
Job Details
- Qualifications: Completion of an accredited surgical technology program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or military training structure. Current American Heart Association AHA Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. A minimum of 2 years of progressivley responsible work experience in a related role is preferred.
- Schedule: Rotating shift, 10 hours per shift, with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeons with instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and supplies for sterilization and disinfection.
- Perform surgical counts with circulating nurses to ensure all sharps, instruments, and sponges are accounted for.
- Maintain aseptic technique and monitor for breaches in infection control protocols.
- Ensure that all equipment is functioning properly before use and report any issues.
- Support patient transportation and indirect patient care activities.
- Follow policies for safe handling of specimens and medications, understanding medication use, patient allergies, and weight considerations.
- Assist with restraining uncooperative or combative patients safely.
- Serve as a role model for Surgical Tech I colleagues and support team efforts.
