Job Summary
Operating Room First Assist in Open Heart – ORFA OH – is a specialized role based at the healthcare organization's cardiac surgery center. This position involves supporting complex cardiac surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), aortic valve replacement (AVR), and mitral valve (MV) repair or replacement. The role requires hands-on intraoperative assistance and perioperative duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Job Details
- Required Qualifications: Graduation from an approved Surgical Assistant program, less than 1 year of experience taking Second Call for the cardiac service line, national certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or from the Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA), or from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA), a valid Driver's License or State ID, and submission of UHS employment documentation.
- Schedule: Days shift, 8 hours per shift, minimum 40 hours per week.
- Additional Responsibilities: Performs intraoperative technical functions under supervision, supports cardiac surgeries including emergency procedures, covers regional call to support the cardiac surgery program system-wide, and supports procedures in the cardiac cath lab.
- Certifications: Must have graduated from an approved Surgical Assistant program.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of hands-on surgical assistance experience.
- Preferred Qualifications: Certification from NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA.
- Additional Information: Must abide by all policies, standards, and all requirements to securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients. Annual training, workplace conduct, and policies related to PHI are mandated.
