<p>National CRNA Week is an annual celebration of the more than 59,000 practicing nurse anesthetists in the U.S. This week was established in 2000 by the AANA and is an opportunity for us to celebrate the outstanding work and unique expertise of CRNAs.</p><p>We are honored to work with outstanding CRNAs each day and are grateful for all they do! Today, we will be spotlighting one of our amazing CRNAs, Hollie C. Join us as we hear more about what drove her to become a CRNA, why she chose to work locums and what she loves about working with Cross Country Locums.</p><h2>Why did you become a CRNA?</h2><p>My first career job was as a social worker in a drug and alcohol rehab. I worked alongside a team of nurses who encouraged me to go to nursing school. I pursued this and ended up at the Jefferson accelerated one year program. Once I graduated, I stayed at Jefferson as a telemetry nurse. After 2 years, I went to the surgical ICU there.</p><p>I loved the SICU and learned so much. I would receive patients directly from the OR and get reports from the CRNAs. I developed a relationship with a diploma prepared CRNA. She invited me to shadow her for the day in the OR. Her name was Marian. She was a CRNA for 15 years at that point. Her knowledge and independence as a practitioner had me hooked immediately! I applied to CRNA programs, and the rest is history.</p><p>I have been a CRNA now for almost 11 years.</p><h2>What advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?</h2><p>Anesthesia is nothing like your nursing career! Your independence is empowering but stay humble. Ask for help, seek deeper understanding of your patients, and always respect the staff nurses!!</p><h2>Why did you choose locums?</h2><p>Nursing is wonderful because the variation of shifts is endless. When I started having children and wanted more time at home with them but still needed to make the same amount of money to maintain my life - locums was a perfect fit. I get to determine my schedule and am still able to keep the same financial status. I wish I had gone into locums much earlier in my career.</p><h2>What do you like about CCL?</h2><p>This is my first experience with a locums organization and I couldn’t be happier. My liaison, Chris, is wonderful. He made my start up there effortless. He helped with all the initial paperwork and credentialing. He checks in monthly to make sure I am still happy at my current placement. Whenever I email or call him with a question, he gets back to me the same day. They also have many areas that they staff so if I ever want to move sites it would be easy!</p><h2>What do you like about the facility they placed you with?</h2><p>Chris, my liaison with CCL, checked in weekly with me when I first started at my position. That made me feel secure with the company and at ease. Now he checks in monthly. The surgery center I work for has a good relationship with CCL. I think that is the strongest reason the placement has been so wonderful.
