<h2>Meet Rachel B., School SLP</h2><p>At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation who are dedicated to improving kids' lives every day! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This time, we’re spotlighting one of our outstanding school-based speech-language pathologists, Rachel B.</p><p>Here’s why Rachel decided to become a school SLP, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for school SLPs just embarking on their careers.</p><h3>Why did you become a speech-language pathologist</h3><ul><li>I have always been fascinated by the quote from philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.” Interacting with individuals and sharing who we are is intrinsically wound into communicating with others, whether that be through body language, gestures, spoken words, writing, music and even art. The most beautiful experience we are given on this earth is to know others and to also be known. I have worked in many different settings; however, my passion is early intervention, and I find so much joy in helping early communicators and their communication partners interact with one another through spoken words, songs, movement, body language, and discovering a mutual enjoyment of their shared interactions as they expand communication limits on their world.</li></ul><h3>What do you like about CCE?</h3><ul><li>I am a quite autonomous working professional, and I appreciate that CCE does not "hover," yet they are immediately available for any support I need. My focus is always on my caseload and my team, and CCE respects and trusts I am doing my job with integrity. Also, they never pressure me to work in contracts that don't meet my individual preferences and are quick to find the "right fit."</li></ul><h3>What have you liked about working at the schools with CCE?</h3><ul><li>I appreciate that CCE has great contracts/relationships with wonderful school districts. Most of the districts I have contracted with through CCE are fully staffed and have resources available for me to perform my job to the best of my abilities. I also appreciate that my recruiter is my advocate, and there is a separate representative serving the school directly. My recruiter advocates for me first and foremost</li></ul><h3>What advice would you give someone starting out in your field/profession?</h3><ul><li>Starting out as a SLP usually means that you haven't quite found your "niche" yet. There is such a broad scope to what we do. I would suggest taking your time and trying out different settings/populations. It took me a while! When CCE offered me the opportunity to work in Early Intervention (0-3), I came alive professionally in a new way. I love coaching caregivers, working so closely with other providers, and being in a tight-knit Early Intervention team. CCE is the perfect platform to try out many settings – you can move on relatively quickly if it is not the right fit and also dive in deeper and request similar contracts/settings once you find your preferred setting!
