National Health Education week is here, and the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) is offering daily webinars on how you can help promote health education and health literacy among students.<h2>The Importance of Health Education</h2>Health education enhances overall quality of life, reduces disability and premature deaths, and lowers medical costs (<a href="https://www.sophe.org/about/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SOPHE</a>). Further, “health literacy is a large determinant of health status, and without these components offered by health education specialists, members in each community can be greatly affected” (<a href="https://www.sophe.org/focus-areas/national-health-education-week/national-health-education-week/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SOPHE</a>).Nothing has made this more apparent than COVID has. Health specialists, school nurses, counselors, and other educational professionals are well aware, health education is critical – now, more than ever.<h2>National Health Education Week is October 18-22, 2021</h2>That’s why the Society for Public Health Education established National Health Education Week nearly 20 years ago. This year’s theme is Gateway to the Future: The Power of Health Education &amp; Promotion.Each day during this year’s National Health Education Week, SOPHE will host a webinar featuring leaders who bring diverse perspectives to the conversation. The webinars are designed for health educators and would appeal to health teachers, school nurses, school counselors, OTs, SLPs, administrators, and other educational professionals interested in promoting health literacy among students and the community.Events are free during early bird registration, which runs through October 18, 2021, at 3 p.m. ET. For more details and to register, visit <a href="https://www.sophe.org/focus-areas/national-health-education-week/nhew-activities/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SOPHE NHEW 2021</a>:Monday, October 18 – COVID-19 Classroom Chat: RE-Adapting to the Classroom in 2021 – School health experts discuss teaching/returning to the K-12 classroom and cover topics like mental health challenges, return to in-person instruction and guidance, and tackling barriers that come with reacclimating to the school environment.Tuesday, October 19 – How to Promote Your Health Education Skills for Careers in the Field – Panelists engage in discussion and active Q&amp;A on careers for health education specialists and how to promote your value as a health education specialist.Wednesday, October 20 – Presenting Accessibility for an In-Person and Online Audience – Panelists discuss how to present accessible online and in-person conference materials using collaboration tools, digital/printed documents, and various content to the greatest number of ability-agnostic attendees.Thursday, October 21 – Health Literacy: Addressing COVID Disinformation and Reaching Diverse Populations – Panelists share how health education specialists can use the new Healthy People 2030 goals, along with social media tools, to improve health literacy and address COVID-19 misinformation and disinformation.Friday, October 22 – Navigating Workplace Mental Health Amidst COVID-19 – Panelists discuss mental health during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (mental fatigue, social isolation, trauma, burnout, and anxiety), how it affects employees, how employers can prioritize employees’ mental health amidst COVID.<h2>School Nurses, Health Specialists, Counselors, and Educators Can Build Health Literacy</h2>School nurses, health teachers, counselors, principals, and other educational professionals are uniquely positioned to improve the lives of students and impact the health of our nation through health education.
