Why did you become a SLPA?I became a SLPA to help people with communication disorders find their voice. Communication is such a vital part of our existence as human beings. Simply, I just want everyone to have the opportunity to learn how to express themselves and understand what they hear.&nbsp;I believe the therapy we provide does just that.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;What do you like about Cross Country Education?I appreciate the level of support and communication amongst the CCE office and field staff. The CCE team is relatable, responsive and reliable. I especially like the weekly updates, they keep me informed and connected to the team on a regular basis.What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?My most enjoyable moments working at CCE schools have been more recent post COVID19 pandemic. I connect with one school via ZOOM every Friday to discuss the caseload. The school staff are very dedicated to teaching and supporting the students and families. They invite us to weekly staff meetings and include my supervisor and I in all communications regarding students - which in turn helps us provide quality therapy.What kind of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?&nbsp;<ul><li>Most important …listen&nbsp;</li><li>Listen to your SLP, students, teachers, parents, support staff.&nbsp;</li><li>Take the time you need to plan LAS sessions.&nbsp;</li><li>Keep a document of notes for yourself about the daily tasks and events – digital if possible.</li><li>Remember your energy and posture sets the tone – be professional but be yourself – genuinely.</li><li>Learn the names of the people/staff, teachers etc. that you come in contact with – take the time to speak to them. when you first meet especially in a new school setting, write those names down.&nbsp;</li><li>Communicate with your SLP, be integral and honor the SLPA/SLP supervision guidelines from ASHA.</li><li>Smile, have fun and be creative in how you approach and support students.</li><li>Plan to take time off – you will need it and it’s ok to take it.&nbsp;Request and plan in advance.</li></ul>
