Paul shares why he decided to become a sub, what he loves most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what he would tell substitute teachers just embarking on their careers.</p><p><strong>Why did you become a substitute teacher?</strong></p><p> I became a substitute teacher as a way to get more practice teaching. I became a substitute teacher as a part of my journey to becoming a special education teacher. I was lucky enough to be placed in a special education day class for two years, and I knew I wanted to do this full time.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>What do you like about working as a substitute teacher with Cross Country Education?</strong></p><p> I love working for Cross Country Education. They allowed me to finish my credential and gain practice teaching while putting into practice techniques I learn in class. They provide excellent personal development to help you in your steps to being a fully credentialed teacher.</p><p><strong>What experiences have you enjoyed teaching as a sub at schools CCE partners with?</strong></p><p>During my two years as a SPED teacher at an elementary school, I changed my whole focus of my credential. I worked for two years with children who had autism. The amazing souls that I met in that classroom made me want to work as hard as a could to make sure these kids received the best education possible while thinking outside of the box on lesson plans and learning IEPs. I was also about to move reading and math levels for two students from 3rd to 6th grade levels in those two years.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>What kind of advice would you give to those starting out in your field as a substitute teacher or special education professional?</strong></p><p> Be patient with yourself and your students.
