This week, we are celebrating speech language pathologist Kelly H. Kelly shares why she decided to become an SLP, what she loves most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what she would tell SLPs just embarking on their careers.</p><h3>Why did you become a speech language pathologist?&nbsp;</h3><p>When I was an undergrad student at UC Merced, I had no idea about the field of speech language pathology or even that SLPs existed! It wasn't until I volunteered at an orphanage in India that I encountered a teenager who couldn't speak. I was immediately shocked, and it was my first time encountering someone with speech difficulties. After completing my volunteer work abroad, I decided to investigate more about language and speech disorders. I discovered the field of speech pathology, and I learned about becoming a SLP. After that, I knew that this is who I was meant to be, and this was the career that I needed to pursue.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><h3>What do you like about working with Cross Country Education?&nbsp;</h3><p>I've been working with Cross Country Education for a few years now. Here is what I like:</p><ol><li>My amazing recruiter Diana! I love our relationship, I come to her with any questions, and she is always on top of things.&nbsp;</li><li>CEUs – Cross Country sends me emails for CEU workshops at low to no cost.</li><li>They truly make you feel part of a special team. Prior to COVID, I attended their holiday party, and throughout the year, they would send me cute little gifts (e.g., coffee mug, a beach towel, little knick-knacks).&nbsp;</li><li>They are there for you and advocate for you as an employee.</li></ol><h3>What kind of advice would you give to those starting out in your field as a speech language pathologist?&nbsp;&nbsp;</h3><p>As a Clinical Fellow myself, don't pressure yourself to be perfect! Stay humble, enjoy the process because mistakes are bound to happen, expect the unexpected, and have fun!
