This week, we’re spotlighting deaf and hard-of-hearing itinerant Jessica M.Here, Jessica shares why she decided to become a deaf and hard-of-hearing teacher, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for DHH teachers just embarking on their careers.Why did you become a DHH Itinerant?I became a DHH itinerant in order to have the opportunity to support deaf and hard-of-hearing students as they work towards their goals to optimize their success in the mainstream environment and in life. I enjoy the fact that I can work with students as young as TK [transitional kindergarten], and on the same day, students in high school as they prepare for their transition to college and beyond.&nbsp;What do you like about Cross Country Education?I have enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with other professionals in the field such as the speech and language pathologists and school psychologists in order to truly provide individualized services and supports for the students.&nbsp;What have you liked about your experience working at CCE schools?I've had the wonderful opportunity of being welcomed into schools and to truly feel as though I am a member of their school communities. Another bonus has been being able to see my students grow academically throughout the years and especially this year, seeing their resilience even throughout these challenging times.What kind of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field as a deaf and hard-of-hearing itinerant teacher?The best advice I would give someone new entering the field would be to go into the job with a collaborative spirit and to not be afraid to ask for guidance or support when they need it.
