<h2>Meet Natalie H., Speech-Language Pathologist</h2><p>At Cross Country Education, we’re honored to work with the best of the best from across the nation who are dedicated to improving kids' lives every day! We take great pride in their shared passion for helping students succeed, and we love passing along their insight to inspire others interested in this rewarding field. This time, we’re spotlighting one of our outstanding school SLPs, Natalie H.</p><p>Here’s why Natalie decided to become a school SLP, what she enjoys most about working with the Cross Country Education team and schools, and what advice she has for SLPs just embarking on their careers.</p><h3>1. Why did you become a school SLP?</h3><p>Becoming a speech-language pathologist has been one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. I find so much joy in making a direct impact in the community by helping children and adults find their own ways to communicate. Everyone deserves a voice and an opportunity to advocate for themselves whether that be through spoken words, gestures, body language, writing, and any other form of communication. My passion is helping school-aged children build valuable relationships with others. The most beautiful experience is watching students increase their communication skills and generalizing such behaviors into their everyday lives.</p><h3>2. What do you like about Cross Country Education?</h3><p>My experience with Cross Country Education has been great. I appreciate that CCE’s contracts are individualized to my needs. They’re always readily available to provide me with the support, tools, and supervision necessary to do my job. They have amazing resources available to grow within my career, and I also appreciate that they trust me to do my job with integrity without micromanaging my work. I love that I get the freedom to create my own goals, materials, and therapy plans for the students on my caseload. Overall, everyone is friendly, flexible, and supportive which makes me love my job even more.</p><h3>3. What have you liked about working at the schools with Cross Country Education?</h3><p>I like that CCE has relationships and contracts with various school districts across the country. CCE has given me the opportunity to work at different schools with diverse populations and needs. This empowers me to continue learning how to individualize each student’s assessment and therapy. It allows me to creatively make a long-lasting impact in their lives. My job as a speech-language pathologist is not only to service the students on my caseload but to collaborate with their families and other professionals to provide the best quality of care.</p><h3>4. What advice would you give someone starting out in your field?</h3><p>During graduate school, I would recommend taking the time to organize and create a toolbox of materials for your sessions and assessments. This will help reduce the amount of stress you can feel in a high-paced environment and can help reduce the time spent preparing for your clients. I would also definitely say that it is important to get experience in different settings to see what area you enjoy working in the most. This would be a great opportunity to see what you like and what you don’t. At this time, be receptive to feedback and learn from the mistakes you make. This is the perfect time to make mistakes because you have a supervisor/mentor to help guide you through it.
