<p>Nursing isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. For one dedicated nurse, Aleshia L., it began with a desire to give back in a deeply meaningful way. “I became a nurse because I wanted to be able to give back to people in a way that showcased love and compassion for others,” she explains. “I also wanted to witness life and death experiences that would enable me to help others through these events using my nursing experiences.” </p>

<p>This heartfelt approach to the profession has guided her through countless moments of triumph, heartache and transformation. Her advice to those just starting out in nursing? “Always show compassion in your work.” It’s a simple yet powerful reminder that behind every chart, procedure, or shift lies a human being in need of care—and a nurse with the capacity to profoundly impact lives.</p>

<h2> Flexibility and Innovation </h2>
<p>One of the aspects she values most about her current role , as a corrections RN, is the supportive structure provided by <strong>Cross Country MSN</strong>. “I love the flexibility and the way my recruiters keep me up to date,” she says. Having the autonomy to choose her assignments while staying well-informed has given her the freedom to focus on what matters most: her patients.</p>

<p> As technology continues to evolve and medicine advances, Aleshia remains optimistic about the future of healthcare. “I love that new medicines are being created to help patients heal from their illnesses and/or live longer with chronic diseases,” she says. These innovations provide hope—not only for patients, but for the professionals who care for them.</p>

<h2>The Why</h2>
<p> Of all her experiences, there is one patient story that stands out. “Oh, I have so many…” she reflected. “But the one that really sticks out to me the most is one patient that I had in hospice. She lived alone and she and I formed a bond.” With only a son who visited occasionally, the patient came to rely on me as more than just a caregiver. “She always told me I was the daughter she never had. I could write a book about her and the relationship we shared.” As the end of the patient’s life approached, the connection they had built became a source of strength—for both of them. “I believe she helped me more-so than me helping her.”</p>

<p>In nursing, medical skills and knowledge are essential—but it’s the human connection that leaves a lasting legacy. Through moments like these, Aleshia continues to live out her calling, one patient at a time.</p>
